Sorry that this update is a day late, but I have been taking in the great state of the District of Columbia (wink wink nudge nudge)! I’ve been able to get use to the metro system very quickly. It reminds me overwhelmingly of Ireland’s public transit system. Minus that it is a rail system, but it is much better than New York’s (no offense). The apartment complex I am in is quite spacious and well furnished. Throughout this post everyone will see pictures that I took of my apartment. I realized looking at a booklet from the consierce desk of our building that there are various German and Irish pubs around the
city. The most popular one (mostly used for happy hour and networking) is the Dubliner that is located off of Union Station. It is exactly what I love about “good” (i.e. real) pubs good food, beer, and live music. The food is a mix of American and Irish classics, such as fish and chips, London Broil, Guinness burger, beef stew, etc.
So far we have been through several significant orientation processes (both of the city and the program). Currently everything said in my last post is still correct, however, the first program event was cancelled (due to the speaker being sick). This means that my first day I will be able to work the entire day, which I am extremely excited about. Earlier today I joined linkedin.com, which many of you know already, but it is a professionals networking site.
Also, this week I have most been trying to save up my money so I haven’t really cooked quite yet (i.e. mostly sandwiches and eggs). However, tonight I did cook some pasta and chicken sticks with my roommates that all cook (my roommate from Mexico promised to cook us at least a few, if not one, authentic Mexican meal). The pasta was typical spaghetti, but I topped it with about a tbsp of butter and some salt and pepper. The combination of the tang the butter and the spice the black pepper gave it truly made it a great meal.
Till next week, hope all my friends are having a great time while I am away. And I pray and wish y’all the best!!
